Fishing for black bass under boat docks can be a very rewarding method of fishing. Black bass love to lie under docks, hidden in the shade a slurping up stray panfish and crawdads. The problem is, how to get the bait way back in their where the big bass are hanging out. Flip, pitch or under hand side cast a soft plastic baits, is the suggested method to use.
Bait: Any soft plastic bait can be used (worms, lizards, craws, flukes, slug-o, stick plastic baits, brush hogs, tube etc.). Manufactures (Zoom, Berkly, Strike King, Culprit, Senko, Kinami, etc.)
Method: Texas-style (weighted or free style), depending which type bait you use. Always use as little weight as possible; the less resistance the bass feel is always going to be in your favor. (You can also use a Carolina rig, but it is harder to manipulate).
Remember the most important thing is to get the bait as close to you target as possible. Always give yourself enough room to make a successful approach. Some time you can just let you bait snuggle up to the dock post, or you may have to get further under the dock, where the fish are. It is always suggested that you let you bait reach the bottom before starting your retrieve. Then use a twitching or pick-up motion with a slow retrieve should get the desired results. Bass will hit your bait 98% of the time on the fall.
This method is especially good in the summer, or if the lake your are fishing does not have grass, standing timber, lay-downs or known brush piles.
Until the next time, have a good day and great fishing.
